Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) is an enlarged prostate gland caused by progressive hyperplasia of glandular cells or stoma cells from prostate tissues. BPH is a common problem that increased by age up to 40 years. The symptoms is termed as lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) that consist of voiding symptoms, which is straining to urinate, frequent urination, urinary hesitancy and retention. Beside that there are also other storage symptoms such as urgency, frequency and nocturia. Aims: The aim of this study is to know the characteristic of BPH patients in RSU Haji Medan from January – December 2015. Method: Research design of this study is descriptive studies. Population all of the patients who diagnosed with BPH in RSU Haji Medan from January-December 2015. Sampling technique is using total sampling method. Research data was retrieved by taking the patient’s entire medical record with BPH in RSU Haji Medan from January-December 2015. Results: There are 84 person diagnosed with BPH. The highest age group is 60-70 years; consist of 34 people (40.5%). The most common complaints of patients with BPH is being not able to urinate, consist of 42 people (50.0%). Common volume size of prostate is 40-60 grams which is 32 people (38.1%). The most common therapy is TURP, by 64 people (76.2%). The highest co morbidities is hypertension, consist of 20 people (23.8%). Conclusion: The most patients with BPH in RSU Haji Medan were 60-70 years old, with the chief complaint is being not able to urinate, with common size of prostate volume is 40-60 grams, the most common therapy that been used is TURP and the highest co morbidities is hypertension.
